How Much Does It Cost to Live In Navi Mumbai?

Navi Mumbai formerly known as New Bombay, is a planned satellite city off the west coast of the Indian state of Maharashtra.

This city lies on the peaceful end of life and it would be wrong to compare it to Mumbai, because they are completely different in numerous aspects.

Navi Mumbai is actually on the verge of becoming a Smart City, and it’s even developed more than Thane and the other suburbs.

All in all, the amount of money you spend there depends on what you want to spend it on, and your other personal preferences.

Restaurants

RESTAURANTS

There are thousands of affordable restaurants and cafes where you’ll eat delicious food and have a great time. Now, that also depends on the area. You can find great food in one neighborhood for only 0.14$ but the same thing in another neighborhood will cost you 0.43$. A solid meal in an inexpensive restaurant will cost you around 2$, while having a pint of domestic beer is less than that.

Markets

MARKETS

Those staying in the satellite city can buy their vegetables and groceries for small amounts of money at the wholesale market that offers a wide range of markets within itself. There’s the grain market of rice, wheat, pulses and kitchenware, and at a discount too, and here you can buy virtually anything you need for that home-cooked delicious meal.

Transportation

TRANSPORTATION

Actually, the most frequent mode of transport in Navi Mumbai is walk, even though the transportation services in this city are reportedly good. All forms of transport, including taxis, Uber and public transport are insanely cheap. If you use public transport, you will spend maybe less than a dollar for about 5-10 kilometers. However, if you want to avoid public transport and take a taxi, then you’ll likely pay around 2$ for the same distance.

Utilities

UTILITIES (MONTHLY)

When it comes to utilities, they’re not expensive, but you should know that there are issues with water supply (that last about 2 hours a day) and daily power cuts. Depending on the size of the apartment you want to rent and the place you’ll be located, utilities can be very cheap or very expensive. All basic utilities for an apartment of a larger structure (85m2) will cost you around 30$.

Sports and leisure

SPORTS & LEISURE

Like everything else, prices of sports and pastime activities in Navi Mumbai are low too. If you want a gym or a fitness club membership, the price you’ll pay is only about 15$. If you want to go cinema, the tickets are very cheap too – they only cost about 3$. This is very cheap compared to the prices around the world, but for the locals it may be expensive.

Clothing and shoes

CLOTHING & SHOES

Navi Mumbai has a lot of shopping malls where you can go shopping and actually spend less money than you would in your own country. For example, quality jeans will cost you close only about 30$, while a pair of Nike running shoes can cost around 45$. Light pieces of clothing like shirts and dresses are somewhere around 30$, too.

Rent per month

RENT PER MONTH

As for accommodation and rent, it really depends on where you stay, whether you are renting the whole house or just a room. All in all, rent isn’t expensive at all in Navi Mumbai, but for Indian standards, it may turn out to be. If you want an apartment in the city center, it will cost 150$ but there are plenty of gorgeous little apartments a bit further away from the city, that are charming and cost about 70$ a month.
