How Much Does It Cost to Live In Lublin?

Lublin is the largest city in Poland east of Warsaw and the Vistula River.

It also has huge historical importance, since, during the Middle Ages, it used to be an administrative, trade, and military center for the Polish kingdom.

It is a peaceful city, very safe, with almost no crime on the streets.

Lublin is definitely on the less expensive side when it comes to the cost of living.

RESTAURANTS

In the Old City there are lots of lovely cafes, restaurants and even a shopping mall where you can have fancy dinners and outings – and you can count on these being a bit more harsh on the wallet. However, if you’re looking for a decent meal for a low price, you can always find charming places where you can eat for around 5$. There are also international fast food chains and delicious street food.

MARKETS

You’re going to find all sorts of food when it comes to groceries and supermarkets. And though you don’t have to spend time in the kitchen at all since there is also plenty of junk food and small venues on the road to buy something ready to eat, the Polish generally tend to cook by themselves. You can easily find all groceries in Lublin – and get some healthy, non-processed, tasty and cheap food in open markets, directly from the farmers.

TRANSPORTATION

The good thing about public transport in Lublin is that it isn’t necessary. You can get from anywhere to the center in less than 40 minutes’ walk and most people prefer to go on food or, more rarely, use buses, leaving the cars at home. Lublin is pretty compact, but even though it isn’t necessary, the public transport is cheap and efficient.

When it comes to utilities in Lublin, the prices are much lower than what is considered to be the average in Poland. It mostly depends on the size of your apartment and how much electricity you spend. Basic utilities like electricity, water, gas and garbage services in an apartment of 85m2 will cost you around 120$. During winter, the bills might go up because of the heating.

SPORTS & LEISURE

The great thing about Poland is that it’s a country of vast natural beauties and that allows for many outdoor (read:free) activities. In Lublin, there are cycling tracks and walking paths, but if you want to become a member of a gym or a fitness club, that will cost you 23$. A cinema ticket costs around 6$, depending on the seat and the day of the week.

For a great shopping experience, definitely head over to the Old Town, where you’ll find the Tarasy Zamkowe shopping mall just behind the castle. Though for many – shopping is essential, in this city, it’s almost like a touristy spot – with a gorgeous balcony with a view on the roof of this shopping mall. The prices are somewhat reasonable: quality jeans cost around 66$, and running sneakers of brands like Nike are over 70$.

RENT PER MONTH

Rent in Lublin is higher than in most other Polish cities, and this makes sense since it’s the city with tourist spots and great historical significance. If you want to save some money, look for an apartment outside of the city, and your rent will be around 330$. If you’re looking for a larger apartment, for your entire family, count on paying over 700$.
