The NCRB was set up in 1986 to collect and publish crime statistics for India.

They publish a report every year called ‘Crime in India.’

I have listed the ten safest cities in India to keep you as safe as possible when you travel to India.

Not only the wealthiest city in India but one of the richest in the world, Mumbai is known as the city of dreams.

As the financial center of India and the home of Bollywood, you will find creatives and financial whiz kids rubbing elbows.

The higher standard of living in Mumbai ensures tax money for an efficient police force and advanced infrastructure.

Having an architectural tour here will reveal some of the complex histories of this port city.

Two famous drives will reveal the beauty of this port city.

You can admire the impressive Bandra-Worli Sea link and take the Marine Drive, whose lights resemble a string of pearls.

‘The Times of India’ recently voted this as one of the best cities to live in India.

Ahmedabad is undoubtedly one of the fastest-growing cities in India and is among the safest.

This textile-producing city was founded in the 15th century.

Although it is a vibrant commercial center, Ahmedabad is also known for being peaceful and serene.

This cave is the location of the famous tale ‘Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves.’

It takes a hike to get to, but you will not be disappointed.

Jaipur, India
Jaipur, India

Jaipur

This last city of my recommendations is my favorite.

I felt the warmth and friendly nature of the locals and enjoyed sites that were magical and awe-inspiring.

Statistically, the crime rate in Jaipur is much lower than in other Indian cities of the same size, and coming here is a peaceful break.

The royal family of Jaipur still lives in the city palace, but some of the wings are open to the public.

The most iconic Jaipur landmark is the Hawa Mahal, which translates to the Palace of the winds.

This palace was built for the royal ladies and is a pink sandstone fortress. It features latticed artwork.

Five Safety Tips

Unfortunately, the disparity in wealth between the third world and the first means that foreigners and tourists are often targeted for crime.

  1. Begin and end your days early to avoid being out after dark.
  2. When traveling by train, book ahead and do not travel economy.
  3. Never walk alone on city streets at night.
  4. Be aware that people are constantly trying to cheat or even intimidate you into giving them money. If you are aware, it can help you avoid being targeted. While it is better than it used to be, even the police have been known to extort bribes.
  5. Indians drive on the left side because of its colonial history. In India, they drive on the left side. This makes it more likely for tourists to get in car accidents. Avoid renting a car unless you have to.
