RESTAURANTS

Restaurant diversity is decent, but not exactly on a big city level.

A lot of name-brand chain restaurants are available just like in any other place in the USA.

There are a few fine dining options scattered here and there, if you’re into splurging.

An average meal is likely to cost around 20$ per person, in general, and roughly 13.5$ in an inexpensive restaurant.

MARKETS

Depending on your dietary preferences, you can end up spending from 35$ to 250$ per person/week on groceries.

Normally, at Walmart, a family would spend around 125$ per week.

It all depends on your selection of items.

For instance, the cheapest whole milk can be 2.25$ gallons (some people cannot consume it as it can cause gastric issues) to the most expensive that’s around 7.50$/gallon.

TRANSPORTATION

There’s really convenient public transport and the city runs a couple of bus routes within a 30 min frequency, so you’ll end up walking a LOT.

Just about everyone drives, but because Springfield is so flat bicycling is another good option.

As for utilities, the bills are relatively on par with the rest of the country.

The prices of utilities here are pretty much like everywhere else, though it does depend on the season and on your consumption of electricity.

There are state parks and hiking trails all around, so you have many ways of exercising and staying fit in nature, for free.

If you love going to the movies, a cinema ticket is very cheap – only 13$ per person.

CLOTHING & SHOES

There’s one big mall in Springfield, with stores like Sephora, GAP, Banana Republic, Macy’s, etc.

However, shopping there does not make too much sense, since you can drive 45 minutes to Branson and get to Tanger Outlet Mall where you’ll find better deals.

But if you do, here are the prices: if you want a pair of Levi’s, it will cost you around 50$ and quality sneakers cost around 93$.

RENT PER MONTH

Depending on what kind of place you want to live in initially, the rent can range anywhere from 700$–3000$ a month.

Really cheap apartments with utilities paid can be found for 800$: they’ll be single bedrooms, and the location would not exactly be suitable for families.

Within around the 900$–1500$ range, you can get a really nice apartment, even in gated communities with a pool, green space, and possibly a mini-gym.
