How Much Does It Cost to Live In Egypt?

The country of pharaohs has so many secrets and mysteries.

The Arabic Republic of Egypt has always attracted tourists, scientists, and archaeologists.

This country is worth discovering if you want to know how it is to live in Egypt like a local.

For example, Egypt has many good schools and universities where you can gain Muslim-oriented knowledge.

Private educational establishments offer Christian-related subjects and ways of teaching, although the teacher’s salary is really low here.

We will outline briefly how much money an average Egyptian needs to cover these and other basic needs.

Restaurants

RESTAURANTS

Undoubtedly, everyone who visited Egypt will say that this is a country of thousands of spices, tea varieties, and fruits.

What are they beyond the border of luxury resorts and coastal storefronts?

The answer is yes, and Egyptian cuisine is full of seafood, meat, salads, and even roasted pigeons.

Despite low prices, the meals are attractive, delicious, and well-cooked.

Markets

MARKETS

The pyramids in Egypt are famous, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

But there is something even more remarkable than that – the great bazaars and markets of Egypt.

Go there for all the healthy foods and species in the world, because the prices, as well as the odors, are awesome indeed.

Transportation

TRANSPORTATION

There’s a rare person still thinking that the Egyptians are still living on the shores of the Nile and navigating it.

That’s true to some extent, although the number of transports they use at present, is much larger.

Domestic and international flights, ships, taxis, and trains are used by millions of local people and tourists yearly.

Utilities

UTILITIES (MONTHLY)

When you rent a flat in Egypt, you will receive separate bills for electricity, water, and gas.

Your water will be heated with either electricity or gas and your monthly bills will be modified accordingly.

Some other unofficial services that you might get in Egypt are trash collection or cockroach liquidation, which you will have to pay occasionally.

Sports and leisure

SPORTS & LEISURE

Besides football, Egyptians like playing basketball, volleyball, and squash.

You can go fishing or do athletics, or do as many water sports as you can.

Fitness clubs and tennis courts are available to any visitor for a reasonable price of $17.10 per month (adult) and $5.70 per hour on weekends accordingly.

Clothing and shoes

CLOTHING & SHOES

Chain stores in Egypt are not limited to H&M, Zara, Nike, or similar.

They also sell natural Egyptian cotton which is perfect for hot days and evenings.

The range of items in the stores is similar to many other countries just a little cheaper.

Lots of shirts, T-shirts, jackets, and blouses for men and women can always be found there.

Rent per month

RENT PER MONTH

We have already discussed the monthly bills, and now it is time to talk about rental prices.

One-bedroom apartments in the center of big cities in Egypt will cost about $125.96.

At the same time, similar accommodation far from downtown will be only $77.68 and you can save a little if you don’t need to spend much on transportation.

How Does the Average Person Spend Their Money in Egypt?

An average Egyptian will rather go to the market to cook from the bought products at home and invite guests than eat out in a restaurant or bar.

At least, they spend most of their money on the markets.

Transportation and monthly rent are the second and third most expensive spending patterns.

Still, people are ready to give 15.2% of their income to restaurants, so the weekends and holidays are probably spent outside the house.

The least money is spent on utilities and you can really thank the Egyptian climate for this.
