How Much Does It Cost to Live In Trondheim?

Trondheim is a city and municipality in Trøndelag county in Norway. It is the third-most populous municipality in Norway, and the fourth largest urban area.

The city is relatively small in the sense that everything is within walking distance in the city center, so you’ll be able to save a bunch of money for transport.

You’ll enjoy everything this city has to offer: history, architecture, good restaurants, nice green areas, an eclectic nightlife, and plenty of student associations (given that it’s a University city).

Like all other cities in Norway, Trondheim has a seriously high standard of living.

RESTAURANTS

The city is small and compact, but with a good choice of restaurants, cafés and nightlife. Usually, people that are not well off do not eat in fancy restaurants, since a meal in an inexpensive restaurant in Trondheim would cost you around 20$. If you go for a dinner at a mid-range restaurant, a meal for two will be around 100$.

Markets

MARKETS

Grocery shopping will definitely cut your expenses and if you have a shopping list, and you’re smart about your groceries, following all the daily sales in supermarkets – then you can save a bunch of money. You should go to small food stores, such as: Bunnpris (which has the best sales, by far), Rema 1000, Ica Maxi and Coop Prix.

Transportation

TRANSPORTATION

Public transportation is quite expensive, even with their various discounts, so the easiest way to save money is to invest in a bicycle, though keep in mind that you’ll probably need to take the bus at some point anyway. Keep in mind that using a car for everyday transportation will not cost less than 500$ a month. On the other hand, you can travel as much as you like on the metro, trams and buses for around 85$ a month per person.

Utilities

CLOTHING & SHOES

Since some cities are very close to the border with Sweden, a lot of people take the bus to go shopping in the neighboring country, and Trondheim could be considered one of those cities. Quality jeans will cost you around 100$, and you won’t find any good running sneakers without cashing out close to 110$.
