There is a saying that youth is wasted on the young, but it should read that freedom is wasted on a student.

When you go to university, there is a sense of freedom that you will only experience while you are there.

The only problem is that most students cannot fully explore and appreciate the freedom they have because their budgets are so tight.

It is the best time to travel, but being strapped for cash makes life difficult.

That is why we listed 7 affordable travel destinations for students.

Temples and Jungles of Sri-Lanka

Sri-Lanka is an island destination with a twist.

Although they have some immaculate beaches, the forests and temples are what make Sri-Lanka a must-see destination.

It is also one of the cheaper island holidays that you can go on.

Some would argue that they have the tastiest food in the world and it would be hard to disagree.

While you are visiting, you could also try and catch a cricket match and experience the passion of the crowds.

Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest is like the Paris of the East.

Unlike Paris, though, you don’t have to take out a massive loan or sell one of your kidneys to afford the trip.

For all the art lovers out there, Bucharest is home to some of the 21st century’s most amazing art.

The 17th and 18th-century churches that are tucked around every corner are also feats of architectural beauty.

If it is a cultural experience you are after, then look no further.

Budapest, Hungary

There aren’t many European destinations that have as much to offer as Budapest in Hungary for the price.

Drinks are dirt cheap and you don’t have to fork out a bunch of cash to see the sights.

The city is filled with architectural beauty and boasts one of the oldest underground railway systems.

Enjoy the nightlife and local cuisine and party like a Rockstar for next to nothing.

The most expensive part of your trip will be your plane ticket.

But, you still need not worry about it.

When I was going there I wanted to pay someone to write my assignment and so I found an affordable essay service, EduBirdie.

While you enjoy traveling, the professionals take care of your thesis, essays, and dissertation writing at very affordable rates.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is one of the most underrated island destinations in the world.

If the Bahamas is a bit out of your price range and lazing about in the sun is your idea of a good time, then Zanzibar is the place for you.

Whether the sun is up or down, there is always a party going on somewhere.

The drinks are cheap and the vibe is electric.

What more could you need from an island getaway?

Croatia

Going to Croatia is like taking a step back in time and experiencing a world long forgotten.

This place has it all and as you walk along the shores or admire the crumbling castles, it’s easy to forget in what century you are living in.

The crystal-clear water is unreal and seems completely untouched by man.

There is too much to do and see for one trip alone so you are going to have to make it a two-part trip.

Croatia is probably one of Europe’s most underrated destinations and deserves a spot on everyone’s travel bucket list.

Thailand

Calling all shoppers! Thailand is the land of shopping opportunities.

Don’t even bother packing a bag because, by the time you are done with the breakaway, you will have a new wardrobe for next to nothing.

Once you are done with the shopping, go to the shores and explore the ocean on a scuba diving excursion, or crawl the streets and savor the cuisine.

Grab a map and explore the vast beauty of the land or ask the locals to point you to the lesser-known hotspots.

There are not many places that offer this much bang for your buck.

Vietnam

When people hear Vietnam, their minds flash towards all the war movies that Hollywood has churned out.

The truth is that Vietnam is a picturesque paradise and will not break the bank.

There is hardly a place where there is not something to see or do.

The food and drinks are super cheap and lodging also will not make you count the pennies.

If there is one thing that Vietnam is famous for, apart from the scenic beauty, it is the food.

Make a tour of it and plan your travels around the local eateries.

Conclusion

During your years at varsity, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the freedom it provides.

Do not let a tight budget hinder those travel plans.

There are so many places to explore and with a bit of planning, the next summer holiday could be one that is spent abroad.

Take up a student job and save that extra bit of cash and build memories that will last a lifetime.

Who knows when the opportunity to see the world will present itself again?

  1. As a student, I believe that the saying “youth is wasted on the young” should be changed to “freedom is wasted on students,” as we often don’t have the means or resources to fully appreciate and take advantage of our freedom while in university. However, with affordable travel destinations like those listed here, it’s possible for us to still experience new cultures and create unforgettable memories without breaking the bank.
