What Can You Bring In Your Cabin Bags

Travelling is a whole lot of fun, but it is always made a little more stressful when you have to think about the things you can take on a plane.

These days, the cheapest way to fly is taking a small cabin bag, without checking a suitcase in.

But, this does mean you need to be careful with packing all your essentials.

This is because cabin bags have so many more restrictions in place when it comes to what you can take in the main cabin of a plane.

A lot of items are fine if they’re in the hold, but not so much in the overhead locker.

For many, it’s confusing what can and can’t be brought directly on board.

If you want to save time at the airport (and not get stopped to remove half your items through security), then bookmark this handy guide for your future travel.

Being Crafty on the Plane

Especially if you’re travelling with children, you will want to keep them entertained on the plane, or later on at your accommodation. However, carrying scissors in cabin bags is prohibited.

But, there are some exceptions.

If you’re bringing scissors with rounded edges, or those with a place under 6cm, you’re actually fine to bring them on board.

So yes, you can get cutting on the plane, and do a manicure!

Additionally, other objects and tools you might want for keeping occupied such as knitting needles, can actually be brought on a plane too.

Think it might rain? An umbrella is permitted, as are walking sticks or canes.

However, if you’re thinking of bringing a pen knife or favourite blade, these are certainly not allowed.

Working on a Plane

These days, we all have a myriad of electrical items to take with us.

Especially if we’re working, we do need to take a lot of these with us.

Not only that but when it comes to electricals, many of us have essential beauty items we need to keep ourselves looking our best.

So, what can you bring?

Well, if you’re a workaholic, then laptops, phones and tablets are all permitted.

The only caveat is that they are to be in flight mode when the plane is in the air.

In the past, these items needed to be fully charged if you planned on using them the entire trip.

Nowadays though, bigger planes even have charging spots in the seats.

You can bring onboard batteries or power banks, but the airline will check the power as some are not allowed.

Other electrical items such as hair straighteners or trimmers and electrical razors are also permitted.

Taking Your Meds

Often a confusing one, taking your medicine in your cabin bags is absolutely fine.

However, if you are bringing any liquid medication, then this must still adhere to the regulations of under 100 ml.

Depending on your needs though, you may be able to bring greater volumes and other medical equipment as long as you have informed the airline in advance.

For instance, fliers are able to bring CPAP or oxygen machines as an extra bag for free, as long as the airline is informed beforehand.

Getting Peckish

Many of us like to pack extra snacks or food on our flights, especially if it’s a foodless flight.

However, there are some items you won’t be able to bring.

Soft cheese, pots of items in liquid (i.e. olives) or items like jam, cannot be brought on flights.

Typically, solid or dry foods of any size can be brought on board.

Any liquids, unless purchased in Duty Free and held in a sealed bag, cannot be brought into the cabin.

If you’re a smoker, you know that flying with cigarettes and smoking them, is not permitted.

But, it’s perfectly fine to fly with nicotine pouches.

Not only that but there are no restrictions on using them.

So, they’re a great option if you need a nicotine hit on a long-haul flight.

Last Considerations

Of course, each airline is slightly different depending on the destination.

Always consider any country restrictions regarding what you’re bringing into the country as well as those set out by the airline.

Generally, though, follow these tips and your travel will go smoothly.
